One Piece is an adventure book, it's about a group of people going on an adventure.
FT hasn't had one, not one arc that I can say "man this is what you do with shounen done right". Toriko at least had one truly great arc that got animated. There's not a single redeeming thing about it, it's as generic as generic gets. If I hadn't already invested so much time in it to see it through to the end, I would have dropped it ages ago. Every fight, every single fight, is solved through the power of nakama. The magic is a cool system, but ultimately it's just used as "this person has ice powers, this person grows, this person summons familiars". It's a long, dull, ultimately uninteresting ride down an unsatisfying drawn out roller coaster that doesn't do a single thing unique or differently. Think of it this way, nobody in the series has died that wasn't irredeemably evil, some people have even come back to life, multiple times, there is no plot, I have no idea what the narrative is and I have read all 515 chapters, the only hints of a plot or any sort of character development have happened in this last arc, in the last like 40 chapters, and I'm sorry it's way too stupid and being dragged out way too long. There is nothing about it worth recommending, because every single arc plays out the same way, bullshit as long as you can until you can power of friendship your way out of it. The magic system is cool, in a better series it might be fun.īut dear sweet lord, the fanservice is next level disgusting and the fights are so supremely dull.
